The construction of a new ring road around Eindhoven gets no support from the government. Parliament wants to spend money for a new ring road which is also known as the Square. A majority supported a motion Thursday of the Labour Party to put the money in the widening of the A67 and the A58

The government has earmarked 260 million as a contribution to the construction, totaling nearly 900 million would cost. But Minister Melanie Schultz (Infrastructure) showed this week that it would follow the Chamber’s wish in this matter. The motion was thanks to the support of D66, SP, Green, PvdD, Christian Union, 50PLUS and Norbert Klein a narrow majority. There was a roll call vote with 82 votes for and 60 votes against.
North Brabant itself is divided on the Square. The province supports the construction, but include the city of Eindhoven is against the plan. There is insufficient according to the opponents looked at the damage that the construction would mean for landscape, cultural and recreation.
