New plea for MH17 Tribunal – De Gelderlander

The Netherlands urges along with the other countries involved in the MH17-disaster once again for the establishment of a UN tribunal to try the perpetrators of the shooting down of the plane.

Minister Bert Koenders (Foreign Affairs) makes that call Friday with his counterparts in Malaysia, Australia, Belgium and Ukraine in the Financial Times.

refer Ministers to Resolution 2166 adopted by the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a year ago, shortly after the crash in Ukraine. In that resolution states that those responsible for the crash to be prosecuted for this and all Member States to cooperate. A UN tribunal is the best option because it is independent and transparent, they write.

The Security Council last week to vote on the tribunal but the vote was postponed.
