Police chief to officers: Keep a cool head and wits – Yahoo! News

Police officers must keep a cool head after the conviction of their colleague to two years in prison. Writes police chief Gerard Bouman in his blog after last week sentenced a policeman in Limburg by the court because he had shot a motorist.

The commissioner writes that he considers it his duty to to stand behind the convicted cop: ‘… we are to start due to the policeman, his family and his close colleagues

Strong emotions
Two years in prison is Bouman hard at someone ‘who carries out conscientiously what society expects. ” “That (wanted) criminals arrest and detention is precisely what he did when things went wrong his family and colleagues now have to watch how mercilessly arrives such a judgment…”

Bouman writes that the condemnation of the agent ‘internal violent emotions’ loosens. “It feeds on many frustrations over lack of recognition and about the distorted image (social) media all too often our work and outline our mentality.”

Escalation prevented
Bouman warns his colleagues in the public emotionally respond to the sentencing. “My colleagues and I must be careful of the pitfalls of emotional outpourings.”

Especially generalizations about justice in the Netherlands have to be prevented according to Bouman, for “such remarks are incorrect, misplaced and not bring us further.”

“It is up to us to prevent escalation by a cool head and common sense keep it. I know I can count in this situation everyone’s professional attitude and moral compass. “
