Largest ship in the world arrived in Rotterdam harbor – NU.nl

The Pieter Schelte will be assembled at the Second Maasvlakte.

In addition, its 440 different Dutch companies. By Dutch-Swiss offshore company Allseas designed ship docked shortly after 14:00 off in the lake of the Second Maasvlakte.

Controversial

The vessel has a double bow and certainly 382 feet long. The arrival of the ship is controversial because of the name. Pieter Schelte Heerema, after whom the ship is named, was a Dutch member of the Waffen SS during World War II.

Earlier today allowed to give an opinion on the project know no name. “We understand the sensitivities around the vessel, but it is not for us to judge how a ship is called.”



Container ship

About two days there again a big ship entering the port of Rotterdam. It is the largest container ship in the world, the CSCL Globe.

This is 400 meters long and 58.6 meters wide. It is the first ship in a series of five largest container ships in the world, built last year and this year will be built. The ship can carry 19,000 containers in total.
