Limitation afsteektijden reduces fireworks victims – Focus on News

On the Emergency Departments (ED) of hospitals in the Netherlands on December 31, 2014 and January 1, 2015 574 victims of fireworks accidents reported. These are 126 fewer than last year, a decrease of 18%. Restricting afsteektijden has led to a significant drop in the number of fireworks victims on December 31 during the day. The study, conducted by Veiligheid.nl

The lowest number of fireworks injuries since 2005

As previously fireworks could be from 10 pm on New Year’s Eve that last turn of the year was only from 18 hours. This has resulted in significantly less on New Year’s Eve fireworks victims for 18 hours: 8% this year-end compared to 23% last year. This decrease mainly concerns (80%) less injuries bangers.




As many bystanders as self-injured minor roads

In all injuries with old and new for which the type fireworks registered in the emergency department were decorative fireworks and firecrackers for the same amount (51% and 49%). People also were equally often injured by fireworks fireworks by others as they themselves stood out (both 50%). The victims were most often injured at the hands / fingers (37%); injuries to the eyes come in second place (24%). The most common type of injury are burns (24%), but also amputations (5%), occur.
