As far as is known now one casualty in the accident in Ter Apel where a motorist crashed into a carnival float. According to police, there are further five people injured. Two of them were in the car that collided with a car and then shot through the crowd that watched the parade.
The driver seems to have become unwell and accidentally have hit the parade, police said.
The car drove on the Kapelweg then when the first vehicle was hit and then shot through the audience. There are several injured, exact numbers are unknown. “It looks serious matter,” said a police spokesman.
A fire department spokeswoman spoke earlier of three wounded, one of them seriously. Fire, police, ambulance and air ambulance be present at the scene of the accident. How many people were on their feet for the parade, is not known, but it was very busy in Ter Apel.
Carnavalsvereniging the Kloosterwiekers reports on the website that the parade drew about 25,000 spectators in other years. This time do between 1500 and 2000 participants join the parade, including 73 carnival floats, 35 running groups, bands and orchestras mop. It is for the 50th time in Ter Apel the carnival is celebrated and do traditionally also some German carnival associations join
