The 121 Dutch shops Schoenenreus go again this week open. Curator Bas van Dooren working to have branches of the bankrupt chain tomorrow already in operation.
So the existing stock can be sold. Also opening stores improves the chances for a possible restart, the liquidator announced today.
Schoenenreus went late last month for the second time in two years time on the bottle. The shops are closed since. The store inventory was pledged to the bank and the trustee therefore had to make arrangements to do again all the footwear on the shelves for sale.
More streamlined restart
Two weeks ago, Van Dooren said that more than ten parties had reported interest in a possible restart downsized. The trustee is still in talks with several candidates. According to him, there are at least four serious parties.
The search for a restart at this time is not easy. “It is inclement weather in retail land,” says Van Dooren. “There is interest, but which must be carried further.
According to experts Schoenenreus ran into problems because the chain in recent years has not moved with the times. Moreover, people walk more in their old shoes and give them their money rather on other things.
Online Stores
Schoenenreus went bankrupt in January 2013 already. The chain suffered from declining sales caused by the crisis and competition from online stores. When the company made a new start on the same day with fewer stores, a new formula and with approximately 1,000 of its 1,500 employees.
Schoenenreus had late last month also various offices in Belgium. However, this fell under a separate company and are now managed by a Belgian curator.
