She was a city councillor in Amsterdam, director of the national Maritime museum and the mayor of Arnhem, but now she is the mayor of The Hague: Pauline Krikke. The 55-year-old original Friezin the past few years, First Member of parliament for the VVD, but explains that function soon down.

Krikke was born in Sneek on may 9, 1961. Her parents had a wholesale business in lemonade and beer in the Frisian town. In 1979, she moved to Amsterdam at the Frederik Muller Academy for Library and Documentation studies. Later she studied also law at the Free University in the capital. This study made them not.

The politics started to draw. In 1994 came Today for the liberal democrats ended up in the Amsterdam city council. Two years later, she was alderman of Economic Affairs.

Krikke: I think it’s totally awesome

Pauline Krikke, the mayor of The Hague. She follows Jozias van Aartsen. The VVD politician as the first female mayor of the city. The city council has carried her last night during a private meeting.

During an interview with Elsevier in 2015, she said that she “life is too short to always do the same”. That was probably also the reason for her new step in 2001: when she was mayor of Arnhem.

In her period as mayor she was praised for her ‘normal contact’ with people from arnhem. They conducted a firm policy against coffee shops, which according to her too much.

The Final SP-college member Gerrie Elferink remembers especially the immediacy of Today from the period that she was mayor. “She was very direct. Some people had trouble with it. But I’m also very direct and have definitely clashes with her. I have a sort of love-hate relationship with her, and that are the best proportions.”

After three years as mayor there was criticism of the city council. According to political groups was Krikke “to invisible and no figurehead for the city”. At the time, found Elferink that’s a bit crap. He wrote also a report Today or leave it’. “Councils tend to be after a few years the opposite expectations to impose on the mayor. But that is nonsense. The mayor is adopted to a certain profile. You can’t expect someone to suddenly very different manner. Then you have her away.”

She was still two terms, but then she wanted something else. “Then you need to give space to new people and new ideas. There is a city better,” she said about that choice against Elsevier. SP-college member Elferink has in any case mostly have pleasant memories of Today. “Arnhem is an eventful town. If you’re there for twelve years stick to it, you have done well. It is a great craftswoman. I think that in the Hague, all will be fine. Or it gets completely out of hand. And I think it’s great that there is a woman mayor of a large city.”

At her farewell as mayor in the city of Arnhem was Today appointed as Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. Also she received a golden stadspenning of the municipality. During the official farewell on June 30, 2013 were police, ambulances and fire brigade with flashing lights to say goodbye to Today. “I get still goose bumps,” she said about that.

Thirteen facts about Pauline Krikke

In 2014 went Today back to Amsterdam. She was director of the national Maritime museum. “The Board of trustees praised Today for its spacious experience. As alderman of economic affairs, air and sea port of Amsterdam worked Krikke closely together with the organisers of the maritime event “Sail”, said the organisation of the museum at the appointment. “As mayor of the city of Arnhem, she showed a strategic and creative leader and put Arnhem on the map as a fashion city.”

After more than a year, she got a conflict with the Board of Supervision, and she left again. “It would bring the museum much as a driver have led, and too little as a director,” reported the NRC at that time.

A few months after her departure at the Maritime museum, she was First a Member of parliament for the VVD. That feature holds Today still, but terminates them if they mayor is.
