© anp. People are gathered on July 17 at the Dam with a message of support to Israel. The event was an initiative of the CIDI.
De Telegraaf has a page in the newspaper today made available to the CIDI (Centre for Information and Documentation on Israel) for a message against anti-Semitism. The ad titled “No excuse for anti-Semitism” has been signed by 86 well-known Dutch. CIDI emphasizes that the initiative came from the statement “the Jewish community” and that the Dutch-Israeli interest group only ‘coordinated’ the project.
The CIDI has explicitly chosen not to mention in the ad. Their own name That would distract from the message, a spokesman says. The call for a public statement against anti-Semitism came ‘from the Jewish community. ” This call for an advert had been longer. Closed July 25 published the German tabloid Bild on the front expresses hatred against Jews. That message was the inspiration for the Dutch ad.
The CIDI then approached the Telegraph. The newspaper offered to publish for free.’s Message Deputy editor Jan-Kees Emmer: ‘We wanted to give the space to make this statement. ” He says nothing about the cost of a full-page ad, but says that advertising space in the newspaper today is no lack. ”
The advertisement expresses concerns about rising anti-Semitism in the Netherlands, fueled by the war in Gaza. “The conflict between Israel and Hamas is increasingly also in the Netherlands ‘fought’. On social media, but also on the street is cursed and threatened. Not only against Israel but also against Dutch Jews. Some protesters calling aloud “Death to the Jews.” This must stop now. ”
Among the signatories are politicians, presenters, singers, actors, writers, athletes, or well-known Dutch of all sorts. CIDI approached people to ask whether they supported the message and wanted to sign. The spokesman not only CIDI spread the message, but also people from the community have approached. Their contacts underlines
Wilders name not ad
All parties in the House got a request by mail of the CIDI. Most parties by their politicians sign the message. Also PVV leader Geert Wilders was requested and promised his support. CIDI looked but from his name to be published because Wilders campaigned this week against a “trashy explanation” of Jewish organizations and the government.
Monday submitted Rutte with Jewish organizations, including the CIDI, on anti-Semitism. She declared afterwards that “we are together responsible for the conflicts that take place elsewhere in the world do not lead to tensions and conflicts between groups in our Dutch society. Wilders subsequently criticized in a letter to the Prime Minister Rutte that Islam does not dare to address
The CIDI Today writes on his website. “Mr. Wilders does not occur below 86 because according to him” addressing of Islam “is the solution to the current anti-Semitism. It does exactly what the authors of this statement (in the Telegraph, ed.) Is so concerned, namely the import of the conflict in the Middle East to communities in the Netherlands. ”
