The stringent measures against nuisance fireworks seem to have an effect. The hotline vuurwerkoverlast.nl has so far received 20 percent fewer complaints than around the previous turn of the year. This said the founder of the FIU, the Rotterdam GroenLinks councilor Arno Bonte, today.
At 10:30 this morning, the count stood at 65,000
at the hotline complaints. New Year’s Eve complained about 5,000 people about damage by fireworks, dangerous situations on the street and smog by fireworks, where mostly people with lung problems suffered from.

The hotline, which opened on 24 December, still remains to January 3 open to the public. Then the complaints are compiled into a report that is presented to 25 mayors and parliament.
