ROERMOND -
Enough is enough. We refuse to do not need to make our voice. Who are we? We are the majority. That majority which often talked about, but never with. Those who are not invited to Peacock and The World Keeps Turning, because we stand for nuance and harmony rather extreme views and conflicts. We are the “silent majority” that is overlooked because we have never been silent.

We are those Muslims who respect our Dutch democratic order and love. We are those Muslims who have been brought up with the idea that Islam is a religion of peace. We are those Muslims who tell our children that we must have respect from our religion to others and their religious beliefs and opinions. We are those Muslims who believe that there is no compulsion in religion, and that a murder is a murder, no matter whose name is being committed. We are those Muslims who have been born in the Netherlands or who have grown up here and probably will die here. We are the Dutch Muslims and we have a message for you.

We have enough of those who have hijacked our religion of peace. Those maim our religion of harmony with their extreme ideas and interpretations. Those us, Muslims and non-Muslims, threaten and hurt because we do not want to live like them. These individuals and groups claim that their violent acts are justified by Islam. Those dangerous and incorrect interpretation of Islam manifests itself in intolerance, bigotry, coercion and violence. The most recent example of this was the cowardly assassination in Paris.

We speak out against the ideas and actions of the extremists who carry out these acts in the name of our Islam. We do so because it is our responsibility to protect our religion against those who abuse Islam and oppress. We refuse to be associated with murderers who claim their atrocities in our name and that of Islam should be committed. To them we cry, “This is not my Islam.”

This action is in Roermond supported among others by Kadri Sogukcesme, Councillor for the LVR
