The Dutch state to pay higher compensation to relatives of victims of the Srebrenica genocide. An earlier bid amount would ‘disrespectful’ are.

The Department of Defense unilaterally offered 20,000 euros, but that amount, according to the families of three victims too low. They are demanding 30,000 euros, reports the NIS. The Ministry of Defence has considered the request.

In 2013, the Supreme Court ruled that the Dutch state is responsible for the deaths of three Muslim men in the enclave. After the fall of Srebrenica in 1995, the men of the Dutchbat compound were sent, after which they were killed. The Supreme Court ruled that the Dutch soldiers who were stationed there, could have known what would happen to the men.

Last year, the Supreme Court stated in a similar case the Dutch state responsible for the deaths of three hundred Muslim men after the fall of the enclave. Again, the judge ruled that the military could know what was going to happen with the dismissed men, “given the knowledge of that time, the fate of the male refugees and because of the special position of the compound.” The case was filed by the Mothers of Srebrenica.
