The police Thursday in the refugee center in Winterswijk shot a man. Officers drew their weapons as an asylum seeker was completely exhausted and was a danger to his surroundings

Omroep Gelderland reports that it is a 27 year old man from Cameroon. The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) showed the regional broadcaster that the man had grabbed a fire extinguisher and a pole was ripped out of the ground. That he wanted to go to attack people.

The cops solved first a warning shot. When the man did not respond to that, he was shot in the leg. He was taken to the hospital.

The rest of the asylum seekers’ center has been returned, police said. Detectives do further research.

In the asylum seekers’ center in Winterswijk is room for five hundred residents. The complex on the Amstelstraat in the beginning of this century, built specially for the reception of refugees. The center consists of independent units, which later may also be suitable as seniors or starter homes
