An independent commission will investigate whether the supervisory board of the New World Institute in Rotterdam has acted correctly in giving an assignment to the life partner of manager Guus Beumer. The initiative for the research comes from the Supervisory Board of the Institute, formerly Dutch Architecture Institute.
The research follows a report in the NRC about the 29 jobs that Beumer his partner, architect Herman Verkerk, has delivered since 2001. Everywhere Beumer as a trustee or director held sway, went commands to EventArchitectuur, the office of Verkerk. For choosing Verkerk were always artistic reasons. Other architects could not compete in the line for assignments.
research in one command
The research that there is now only extends to the brief given Verkerk purpose of the exhibition ‘the Temporary Fashion Museum “which opens in September . The other 28 missions – which Beumer handed out in other functions – are excluded
The inquiry must also make a decision about giving a contract to a member of the Supervisory Board by Beumer.. It examines whether at both tasks the Culture Governance Code and its own governance rules of the New World Institute have been followed. From a press release:
“The supervisory board realizes that the deliberations of the Supervisory Board a public debate is conducted. Therefore the supervisory board needs an independent assessment of its alignment. More generally, there seems to be need for clarity on the implementation of the Governance Code Culture. “
The investigation into the actions of the Supervisory Board and the Director shall be guided by the Foundation Culture + business. On the initiative of this organization, the Cultural Governance Code was drafted. Who takes in the committee, is still unclear.
‘error of judgment’
Professor governance Mina Lückerath said this week at De Volkskrant that the Board of monitoring an “error of judgment” is made by the commission to approve the good life partner. The order for a member of the supervisory board found them “weird”. Whoever accepts a supervisory function should avoid any corporate bond, according to the professor. She was chairman of the working group that drafted the Governance Code Culture
