The Canadian police today no longer search for the two missing Dutch explorers Philip de Roo and Marc Cornelissen. The police assumes that the men were drowned, said a spokesman for the ANP.

After a distress call the police found the Canadian Resolute yesterday morning only material of De Roo and Cornelissen.

The two departed on April 6 from Canada to the North Pole to explore the ice field further. Until yesterday, the expedition went smoothly, according to the expedition website Cold Facts. But yesterday morning at 8:55 o’clock the base camp in the Netherlands received an automated distress signal.

Trace
A helicopter from the nearest base in Resolute began to investigate. When the pilot reached the last transmitted location, but he could not land because of the unstable ice. On the ice in the search area, the pilot did see the dog and a sled from the Dutch.

,, of the carriage on the land tracks run to the water. There walk no traces of water. The search team has flown about an hour and then started a search in the area, ” said Cold Facts, an initiative of Cornelissen.
