Salvage Mission MH17 completed after ‘finale last battle’ – nrc.nl

The salvage work in eastern Ukraine where disaster flight MH17 crashed last year, is over. The team of thirty Dutch, Australian and Malaysian experts today made a “final battle”, so that the mission can be completed. This was reported by the ANP.

“Humanly, we have done all that was possible,” said the leader of the repatriation mission, Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg today. In recent times have been recovered, according to him “many” human remains and personal belongings of victims and wreckage of the plane. Aalbersberg does not exclude that in the coming period of years still found something.



‘Good last hope of identifying victims’

Earlier this month were recovered still remains. The locals in the Ukrainian village of Grabovo handed when the personal belongings she found recently to investigators.

The salvage team has been all over the disaster area where humanly anything was found. Aalbersberg is happy that all the experts are safely returned to Kharkov. He has “good hope” that it is possible to find human remains also identify the last two victims (Dutch).



Saturday remains to Eindhoven

A Dutch military plane will tomorrow from the eastern city of Kharkiv expected to transfer seven boxes of remains to the Netherlands. Aalbersberg and Minister Ard van der Steur (Security and Justice) are taking in Kharkiv.
