Encrypted messages play OM and GISS tricks – Computable

The Prosecution increasing burden of encrypted messages, making reports of suspects can hardly be deciphered. That says prosecutor Martijn Egberts against the NIS. The AIVD also struggling according to a spokesman with encrypted communications.

Officer Egberts recommends that data can be accessed after review made by a judge. That would mean that companies such as Whatsapp must provide access to encrypted messages from users. The messaging, however, that this effect is currently not possible.

encryption

encryption information mathematically confused, so that can not view unauthorized files and appjes. Communication is more end-to-end encryption, which only can read along the sender and receiver, and even the app’s creator has no access to the content of messages.

Encryption

The prosecutor stressed that businesses and citizens must be able to communicate securely private. However, he claims that the police and secret services find that their work has become more difficult by encryption, they can become no longer ‘read along’. According Egberts happens that investigations go wrong suspects that use encryption. This relates in particular to police investigations into killings, extortion, drug cases and child pornography. The call to make encryption of tapes, louder since the recent attacks in Europe. The French interior minister calls for European action. Egberts also is in favor of this.

Digital runner

However circumvent encryption is technically complicated and sensitive. One option is to hack suspects, so that messages can be intercepted before the encryption is set up. The government wants to make all longer possible for the police; GISS may already

Another option is to introduce a backdoor in encryption:. the secret services and the police would be able to receive some kind of digital runner to still read messages. Also chat apps and phone companies could be given the task to completely disable encryption in certain cases. Among other European privacy watchdog EDPS opposed. According to the organization uncrackable encryption should be welcomed properly.

Future

the Government proposes in the report “National counterterrorism strategy 2016-2020″ that it wants a ‘response’ to encryption to see if communications of terrorists. What that answer is right, is not mentioned. However, there are already a while bills ready to allow the police to hack into suspects. In other proposals states that secret services on a much larger scale may interception. The Council of State and Parliament must still examine these proposals
