Municipalities to European Commission Target – NU.nl

The municipalities were not consulted by the Belgian authorities in the renewal of the nuclear power plant in Doel, while there is a transboundary impact and risk. The municipality of Bergen op Zoom has Schoups Lawyers in Antwerp hired to file the complaint.

On June 28, 2015 was an amending law in Belgium adopted whereby the operating period of the nuclear reactors, Doel 1 and Doel 2 with ten-year extension. Different agencies like Federal Better Environment Flanders and Greenpeace Belgium have already appealed against the amendment.

The municipality of Bergen op Zoom has Schoups Association commissioned a study on the possibilities to link up with these bodies as a fist to counter the longer opening Objective 1 and Objective 2. the study shows that it is very difficult for example to hook up in the procedure of Greenpeace Belgium.

Security
