The fire in Krabbendijke: A nightmare for every nursing home – PZC

Krabbendijke – Fire in a home full of old and vulnerable people is a nightmare for any healthcare facility. The fire in Nieulande Ter Weel in Krabbendijke claimed two lives.
 

To Weel director Coby Traas came Sunday night at midnight back home in ‘s-Gravenpolder when she received news of the second death. A 92-year-old woman had died in hospital from her injuries she had sustained in the fire at the nursing Nieulande the Zorggroep Ter Weel in Krabbendijke. “That’s tremendously sad.”

The deceased woman lived next to the 96-year-old man who was deceased before. “When I was called at noon, I’m as fast as possible, ‘s-Gravenpolder went Krabbendijke. Fire in one of our residential care centers. Your worst nightmare becomes reality.” A 101-year-old woman is still in hospital. “In her now, our biggest concern.”

The fire broke out in the apartment of the 101-year-old, in front of the rooms of the two killed residents. “They had beaten the alarm. Then she opened the door, and the fire spread. The injured have been taken by a boom in the building. The other six occupants of this wing have been evacuated by the fire.”

The rescue came on stream. Contingency plans were functioning. “From all corners came to help and assistance from staff who had no service, relatives and villagers. There has also been no panic.”

In the room where Traas looks back smelling the events it still smoke. Outside the police have blocked the street so that the technical investigation in peace to do its work for the cause of the fire. The apartment has raged is completely burnt fire. The police can not say yet when results of the investigation be made public.

The 94-year-old Jan Writer saw it happen Sunday. He lives in the wing opposite the area where the fire raged.
