The Rhine performs this summer so much water that the water in the New waterway between Maassluis and Hoek van Holland has become. remarkably sweet This conclusion draws fishing- and Amphibians organization Ravon today by the fact that fishermen catch the last few weeks freshwater fish in the New Waterway. Especially perch and asp floundering regularly on the hook, said Ravon.
The New Waterway is the only river in the Netherlands with a natural transition between salt and fresh water. Its water is not as salty as the sea, but much saltier than other river. In other summers perch and asp therefore pockets no further than Vlaardingen, then the water for these fish too salty.
