The construction cranes and part of the new Juliana Bridge fell over, led to horrifying images and fears for many injuries and deaths.
Many damage
That there are no victims were found during the afternoon and evening, combined with the fact that a man is reported missing, was a reason to discontinue the search, said the mayor. “That does not mean we’re done. There is a lot of material damage, pain and discomfort because some people can not or witness has been home to this terrible accident. The next few days there is still much work to be done. “
Two rescue teams of the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR.NL) with five sniffer dogs have searched a large part of the affected houses and shops. The dogs are trained to detect live people.
Rubble Hope
In the course of the evening hit one of the sniffer dogs a moment, reason for the rescuers in the rubble of a to go look for the affected buildings, said the spokesman of the USAR team. It is not clear whether there really is someone found alive.
Mourik construction company responsible for the construction of the Juliana Bridge in Alphen aan den Rijn ,, very shocked ” by the accident. A spokesman for the family business called a black day. ,, We are very upset. ”
Ponton
The two fallen cranes were on a pontoon. In their hoists hung the moving part of the Juliana Bridge that underwent a thorough renovation. On images taken by bystanders, one can see how one of the cranes and fall over the deck, and the second valve is pulled down. People jumping in panic from the pontoon off and in the background is heard loud screams.
An eyewitness reported to The Telegraph that there are several people in placing the bridge portion had come , out of interest. ,, It was a gigantic crane that stood on a platform in the water. He was not on solid ground. I was across the street when I heard a loud bang. When I went there I saw that the width is the size of three ruined houses. I hope no one was inside. ”
Enormous damage
The front of the damaged homes adjacent to the Hooftstraat. There is havoc (see pictures YouTube) also large. A witness reports to De Telegraaf that on both the front and back of the street is enormous damage. “The street is filled with dust. At least two, three houses were completely razed to the ground. I myself was close to the boat when it happened, but I smoke soon became a strong oil smell. The closer I got, the better me it became clear what was going on, “said Freek Bottema, who also lives on the affected street. “There are rumors that there is a fatality, but no one can confirm.”
The Queen Juliana bridge across the Oude Rijn dates back to 1955. In recent years, there were numerous problems with the building. In 2010, a maintenance company warned that the steel structure of the bridge was bad. A year later grabbed the municipality when it was discovered that the connection to collapse. In June 2013, there were problems again, this time with the braking system of the movable bridge part and in January last year was due to a malfunction, the bridge no longer down.

Next time, but hiring a goat
It will be nice if there are no fatalities.
Good luck to the residents concerned and affected employees from Peinemann, Mourik and Eerland. Will undoubtedly have a huge impact on them. You do not explain for fun a brand new 700-tonner on his back.
Diane, I have read somewhere that the dog would be deceased.
In a small pontoon to heavy cranes do not remain level when the weight lifting something goes tilting causing enormous loads to the attachment points of the cranes. The result is that the crane breaks loose and falls over.
This kind of jobs should not give the cheapest builder !!!! This EU-wide tendering nonsense is purely focused on money money money! As cheap as possible! Those guys in The Hague rape us pure Dutch minds right! Here safety and vakkunde should prevail! Additional piles alongside the pontoons and a simulation of the possible scenarios !! My great grandfather Wessel built bridges and locks without crazy things, like my fellow nationals that belong here, I deeply ashamed !!!
Hope they all pets have saved
The worst thing still, I think you will hear all the same and see how they worked hard to find a culprit instead that the church first says first things out and then quietly figuring out who’s responsible … sick …
Terrible what a drama. Dear people a lot of strength and hopefully you guys can still salvage something from your stuff !!! All the best.
This kind of jobs you just do not settle through work spot!
Leontruus1 this has everything to do with which Europe Sche tenders! This is the strangulation for companies with high indirect costs to keep their experienced staff and therefore their chance on these kind of jobs, making low budget companies will be involved in the take and take risks! If there had been more money were facing greater risks are hedged which I’m sure! That wave was to recover, but they did or could not or did not know, and therefore ultimate late! Basically EU indirectly thanks !!
or somebody knows the dog is off the bench?
Here people should be prosecuted. From experience I know that this never, ever had so may happen. Pure homicide this.
Displacement point G.
here can only one thing to say .. stabilteits calculation was nowhere to be found .. pontoon is maybe 2.5 meters deep and is fixed on spudpalen..daar are two cranes with a considerable weight an barrels which a bridge deck lifts on … the two cranes move independently of each other, otherwise the bridge deck can not be on the pontoon (Interstate distance too small) pontoon become unstable slope taps and break chain and cables and disaster and can no longer be avoided .. wish everyone strength
After lifting the burden in terms of rotation is not stable. The whole rotates so that the pontoon will lean. The instability worsened and the whole thing flips over. Or the rotational stability is forgotten in the preparation or there may be another cause such as the failure of a cable for stabilization sun, I can not say.
Judith, two pontoons through steel beams together bolts is not an option. You do not know what forces, moments and torques can occur in a structure. I’ve ever seen was pulled an M20 bolt like a match from the clay of a steel baseplate. A stupid mistake that people often make is to tap on a WW 3/4 “threaded hole for an M20 threaded hole. Theoretically bolt which is then fixed with only two courses. Result, a crane hook shots from a machine of 1,000 kg.
The opportunity is not inconceivable that this company just as the crane tipping over. Many costs are not covered by insurance. When tenders are only looked at the price and not whether a company solvency. Then it can be cheap becomes expensive.
