After more than 60 years of identifying flood – Telegraaf.nl

After more than sixty years has identified a victim of the floods of 1953. It is a disaster during the 41-year-old woman died from Kruiningen, police said Monday

The woman lay buried as unknown in Yerseke (municipality Reimerswaal). In 2013, the police dug up her remains to conduct DNA. Her now 77-year-old son from Wezep, DNA was available for relationship testing. Therefore the woman’s identity could still be established.

In 2013, joined the police with the assistance of the Dutch Forensic Institute (NFI) 29 unidentified victims. These excavations are part of a national project which the police with new techniques unknown dead buried in 2010, wants to identify.

The son has now been informed of the identification of his mother. Ed Kraszewski Police hopes that this identification is an incentive again for immediate family members of people who disappeared during the disaster to still make their DNA.

According to him, so far half of the survivors of the approximately 100 missing are reported to release DNA. The police hope that family members who have a close family connection with missing persons (parents, children, siblings) buccal mucosa still want to be off for DNA testing.
