Interior

Minister Jet Bussemaker (Education) this afternoon talking with the campaigning students last night invaded the Maagdenhuis in Amsterdam. She wants to hear their side of the story, said her spokesman opposite ANP.

The students are welcome at her ministry in The Hague. It is a delegation from the New University (DNU). That’s the group that Bungehuis, a building of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) days has kept busy. Representatives of the National Union of Students (LSVB) and the Intercity Students Association (ISO) are present when contacting Bussemakerhuis.

The appointment was already, says president of the student union Asva, Nuri van den Berg, on the site of Folia, the student newspaper of the University and the University of Amsterdam. “Students and teachers should have more say in university policy,” says Van den Berg. “We do not accept that governments are committed fait accompli where students than ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to say.”

Van den Berg hopes that the Minister understands that this is a “national problem.” The worst that can happen is that according to him, the minister sees this as an Amsterdam problem to solve the UvA itself.

LSVb Student Union supports the students in Maagdenhuis. Meanwhile, no longer speak of an occupation, but a “sit-in”.

Requirements

Approximately 1,700 students walked yesterday along with the demonstration march which began at the Bungehuis, the university building that was occupied until Tuesday, and then led to the Maagdenhuis on the Spui. At half past eight students forced the door and then fell into the building. The students called on teachers to strike today and immediately announced two requirements:

1. The Board of the UvA should resign immediately
2.. The Supervisory Board must call elections within a month for a new board, elected by all students and teachers.

Look here for other requirements.

Occupation Bungehuis

Recently, Bungehuis, a building of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam, eleven days occupied. The protesters call themselves The New University (DNU) and are dissatisfied with the austerity plans of the Board. The university last week filed a lawsuit to get the activists from the building. Despite the decision of the court, which ruled that the students had to leave and other 1,000 per day to pay as a penalty, the occupiers remained. Tuesday Bungehuis was cleared.

At the evacuation of 46 people were arrested. They are not prosecuted, provided they the next two years not guilty of an offense. All students arrested have now been released
