Small group of students will stay in Maagdenhuis – nrc.nl

Some two to three hundred students last night Maagdenhuis invaded. A small group of about twenty students has about eight in the administration building of the University of Amsterdam.

An interview with the rector of the University of Amsterdam, the Chairman of the Executive Board and Mayor Van der Laan ran tonight to nothing. The occupation followed a protest march earlier in the evening for better higher education. There have been no arrests made yesterday, a spokesperson of the police this morning to know.

Around midnight Mayor Van der Laan spoke with chief Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg with the students. Van der Laan:

“You do not hear me say that this is a bad action, or that you have gone now. This is Amsterdam and there can always just a little more. You have to be critical, but you have to know if you stay in this stalemate. I wish you wisdom, a little harmony and better studies. “

Reporting

Aalbersberg said yesterday that is not clear is the order. “We are here to talk. Requirements

Approximately 1,700 students walked yesterday along with the demonstration march which began at the Bungehuis, the university building that was occupied until yesterday, and then led to the Maagdenhuis on the Spui. At half past eight students forced the door and then fell into the building. The students called on teachers to strike today and immediately announced two requirements:

1. The Board of the UvA should resign immediately
2.. The Supervisory Board must call elections within a month for a new board, elected by all students and teachers.
