Students keep Maagdenhuis still occupied despite assurances – NU.nl

During a press conference of Humanities Rally and The New College became clear that the students see the commitment of the Executive Board “as a first guide” and “as a basis for further negotiations.” That says Folia Web Thursday afternoon.

The students are not going to leave the Maagdenhuis. “ It still requires a democratically elected board of the university and find a student assessor is not enough.”

It is not yet known who the student is and how it appointed or is going to be selected.



More participation

Chairman Louise Gunning late in a response that the student will also join the board meetings. “The Supervisory Board and deans have so agreed.”

More intervene in the management was one of the demands of the students occupying almost two weeks premises of the university.

It is not clear how many occupants are still in the building. According to city station AT5 did many students in the night from Wednesday to Thursday rather sleep at home.

On Wednesday around 19:30 attacked the students after a peaceful protest march the administrative center of the University of Amsterdam in the door pedal. The board of the University of Amsterdam did return late Wednesday night against the occupiers.

The students left Thursday morning staff know not to prevent to enter the premises. “We keep the door open for anyone who wants to know more, it wants to talk, it wants to think or want to work with.”

Debate Marathon

Award speaks Thursday of “a heated debate last night” .

She said earlier Thursday that the debate will continue, “even with the students and staff who are not in the Maagdenhuis.”

“The points they bring this afternoon, we’re going with each further deepen during a marathon debate. The outcomes are what we are concerned, not optional. I hope and expect that we end those subjects that will be widely, of their suits, “said Gunning.

Jet Bussemaker

On Thursday afternoon at 14:00 the students have a conversation with Minister Jet Bussemakerhuis (Education) had. The minister wanted to hear their side of the story, her spokesman said.

Bussemakerhuis the students invited to her ministry in The Hague. It is a delegation from the New University (DNU). That’s the group that Bungehuis, a building of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) days has kept busy.

Representatives of the National Union of Students (LSVB) and the Intercity Student Consultation (ISO) when contacting Bussemakerhuis present.

The minister had already invited the students Wednesday before dozens of students in the evening the Maagdenhuis invaded, the spokesman said.

Clearance

The triangle (mayor, police and public prosecutor) will decide on Thursday whether vacating the Maagdenhuis on the Spui. Mayor Eberhard van der Laan spoke about midnight in the building with the students.

He confirmed that there was a “peaceful expansion” comes as the Bungehuis, but when that will be is not yet clear.

A police spokesperson says that the declaration of the UvA Thursday first viewed by the public prosecutor, before an evacuation will take place.

The Bungehuis Tuesday was evacuated after the week and a half was occupied by students. It integrates 46 occupiers arrested, but their cases were conditionally dismissed with a probationary period of two years

Protest

Wednesday walked at a protest march along different locations of the UvA hundreds of students, teachers and sympathizers with, to seek higher education.

Louise Gunning Chairman of the Executive Board of the University of Amsterdam spoke Wednesday with the occupiers and asked the students to debate Thursday in democracy. She called on the students to go home
