Update The students occupied Bungehuis in Amsterdam will “soon” be cleared. This has let Mayor Eberhard van der Laan know tonight after unsuccessful consultations with the protesters.

The Executive Board of the University of Amsterdam (UvA), a delegation of the protesters and the mayor spoke today three hours in vain with each other. Mayor, police and public prosecution hope the protesters still leave the property voluntarily. On the scheduled time of the evacuation wild spokesman Van der Laan not go tonight if requested.

According to the students, the UvA Board in no way meets the demands of the protesters. The offer of the UvA Board to organize a Festival of Science on the state of affairs in college, according to a participant in the consultation too loose because the results ‘without influence on policy’ would be.

Proposal
Louise Gunning Chairman of the Executive Board ‘regrets huge “that the protesters did not accept the proposal. She now wants to organize them without public debate, involving representatives of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, MPs, student organizations and other universities. She points out that some demands of the students relate to matters governed by the law and which in The Hague decided.

The Bungehuis, a building of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam, is more than a week occupied. The protesters are demanding more participation of students and teachers. The UvA filed a lawsuit to get the protesters out of the building and got right to the right. That particular Thursday that the students have to leave and that they have to pay 1000 euro fine per day if they do not.
