A rabbi in the US city of Washington has announced that he has filmed more than 150 women in a Jewish ritual bathhouse. That became clear yesterday during a lawsuit against the prominent spiritual leader.
The man women filmed with a hidden camera while she omkleedden and showered in a mikveh, a bath in which women wash according to Jewish customs. The rabbi is on trial for 52 counts of voyeurism. For each charge, he could get a year in prison.
The 63-year-old man is an Orthodox clergyman in Washington, and was more than 25 years, rabbi at Kesher Israel synagogue in the US capital. The bathhouse is affiliated with the synagogue and opened ten years ago. The rabbi was in the dressing room put down a camera that looked like a digital clock.
Police arrested the man when an employee of the bathhouse camera discovered last year. Initially, he was prosecuted for the filming of six women, but in a raid at his home agents found more footage. The man has been fired as a rabbi.
