Guitarist Peter Nieuwerf Friday at the age of 76 in his hometown Utrecht deceased . That made his son today.

Nieuwerf began his musical career in the combo Wim Sonneveld and performed with the likes of Stéphane Grappelli, Rita Reijs, Ramses Shaffy and Jasperina de Jong. He also worked on recordings by, among others Rogier van Otterlo and Robert Long and TV programs as The Stratemaker-on-sea show, The Fable and Sonja’s Good News Show.

From the early 80s Nieuwerf focused increasingly on pure jazz. He was one of the regular attendants of singer Gretchen Kauffeld. In 1996 he performed with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra at Carnegie Hall with the Jazz Suites of Shostakovich. He also worked closely with the artist Armando in his gypsy-jazz quartet.

Below action Nieuwerf, along with Ruud Ouwehand (bass) and Hermine Deurlo (harmonica), two years ago the Mirlithon Theater in Utrecht.
