Photos: big leak in Market Hall in Rotterdam – Elsevier

                 Considerable water damage in brand new Market Hall in Rotterdam in the night from Saturday to Sunday is building hit by a big spill. A number of houses at the top of the Market Hall has broken open fire.
             

The water has entered into a number of stores and in a technical area, making shorts.

Leakage

What exactly is the cause of the leakage is still unclear. The water seeped last night from a few apartments down. Possible district heating is the culprit. Some of the apartments is still uninhabited, and had to be broken up.

The leak could have come at a worse day Sunday in Rotterdam. the marathon, a busy day for business in the city. A police spokesman expects just stores in the building to be open 12:00.

Some stores do have tremendous damage. “The water came in beams down “says a spokesman for the fire department. Meanwhile the main valve and the electricity cut off and the water is cleaned up. Fitters Stedin and Eneco investigate the cause of the destruction.

Market Hall

Market Hall in Rotterdam, inspired by other European covered markets, was officially opened on October 1 by Queen Máxima. Since then, the building attracted many, including the special artwork on the inside of the building. Artist Arno Coenen created there with the Horn of Plenty is the greatest work of art in the Netherlands.

In the first three weeks of the opening of the Market Hall attracted a million visitors. The Market Hall is one of the nine buildings that are in the race for the title BNA Best Building of the Year 2015.
