Cabinet presents plan against antibiotic resistance – nrc.nl

Minister Schippers of Health hospitals and GPs agreements to address problems caused by bacteria are increasingly resistant to antibiotics. Too often there is incorrectly prescribed antibiotics and are in the care according to the minister too much infections instead.

In five years the number of erroneously prescribed antibiotics should be halved and should include the number of infections in hospitals significantly have been reduced. That is according to news agency ANP in the plan, which was sent today to the House.

To find out how resistant bacteria can spread to humans through food, the plan announces additional research. There should also be more research into new antibiotics and alternatives. As bacteria become increasingly resistant to the treatment, easily treatable infections like cystitis increasingly life-threatening.

Next year, in the Netherlands a conference with agricultural and care ministers from the EU countries on how the problems antibiotics can best be addressed.
