Trial GGD Amsterdam with HIV preventiepil – Telegraaf.nl

PrEP is a pill with HIV drugs that can prevent HIV infection. The pill is meant for people who do not have HIV, but who are at increased risk of becoming infected.

“The aim of this project is to investigate how many men PrEP want to use, how faithful the tablets are taken, how it is perceived and use of condom use is changing, “said GGD Amsterdam.

According to the organization is the first time that PrEP is being investigated in the Netherlands. Worldwide, it is the first time that participants in a pilot project offered a choice of daily PrEP or the ingestion of the drug according to a fixed schedule and after sex without a condom.

From Recent international research shows that PrEP is an effective means of prevention. New HIV infections have 86 percent take them off. The number of new HIV infections has been stable in recent years. Netherlands annually employs approximately 1,100 new HIV patients, including 370 in Amsterdam. More than 70 percent of all new HIV infections is determined by gay men.
