Amsterdam should not penalize people parking in the wrong import license plate – NU.nl

That the court in Amsterdam on Friday determined again.

The case was brought by President Bas Filippini of the foundation Privacy First, who was fined after he had deliberately introduced a false license plate.

Filippini believes that the recording and storage of badges violates privacy laws. With a receipt because he could prove that the parking was indeed paid, the court quashed the fine. Furthermore, the municipality must reimburse the costs.



In violation of law

“The position of the church parking without proper introduction of the license plate is that there is unpaid parking is in the opinion of the court in violation of the law, “said the court.

The city of Amsterdam does not agree with the statement and wants the Supreme Court to rule on the issue.

The court ruled not accusing badge parking violates privacy laws, such as Privacy First claims.

Similar case

In May 2014, the court entered a similar case to same judgment. When it failed to enter the correct registration a motorist because the ticket machine was not functioning properly.

According to a municipality spokeswoman for the service Infrastructure, Transport and Transportation fined the municipality parkers if it is not “visualize” whether they have paid for parking. Then they can appeal against the fine.

“That’s no different than before,” the spokeswoman said. “When was the paper ticket behind the windscreen had to blow away or get lost.”



Cost

Amsterdam was one of the first municipalities that introduced the ‘parking badge. Checks scan cars lead to significant cost savings, because there are fewer inspectors and need no paper parking tickets are issued.

Several other cities have already paid this way of parking has been introduced.
