The United States wants the genetic data of more for a large DNA research Collect than 1 million Americans. The aim is to achieve and develop medications medical breakthroughs that are made specifically for one person.
The idea is that there is a database in which all sorts of people sitting, young and old, sick and healthy. One of the main goals is to improve treatments for cancer.
US President Barack Obama has a US $ 215 million (about 190 million) on setting up the database. That is still far from enough. It will cost $ 1000 in order to read out the genetic data of a person. A database with at least 1 million people in it so cost 1 billion dollars.
Researchers therefore want to partially rebuild the database with DNA material that has already been taken from people for medical purposes. The rest could come from volunteers
